Let's kick off this 4th of July in style! If you find yourself in the city this 4th of July then get to one of the many events and enjoy the festivities:
Liberty Run. Washington Park. 7 am.
This morning run will let you enjoy your hot dogs, hamburgers & beer at the 4th of July afternoon BBQ's guilt-free! Registration is at 7 am and the 4-mile run and 1-mile walk start at 8 am. There's live music and a kid's fun run so you can bring the whole family.
Blues Traveler Concert. Red Rocks. 6 pm.
The Annual 4th of July Blues Traveler Concert at Red Rocks. One of my personal favorite places to spend the 4th, where you can listen to good music with the incredible view of Denver city lights and fireworks as the backdrop. You can see all the fireworks in the whole city as you watch the concert, can beat that!
Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets. Coors Field. 6:05 pm.
See the baseball game and watch Denver's grandest fireworks show. This 4th of July game is usually sold out so your best bet for tickets is to have a good friend who knows somebody. Or scout for tickets through online ticket vendors or show up and buy them outside Coors Field.
Denver Independence Day Celebration. City Park. 7 pm.
Denver's City Park invites you to spend the evening with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra for an All-American Program. Bring the family, a blanket or chairs and enjoy the music and fireworks. Go early for good seats if you want to be close to the performance.
My advice is to take advantage of public transportation or alternative modes of transit if you are headed downtown. Independence day is one of the most difficult days of the year to find parking in Denver so use the light rail, ride your bike, hail a cab or just walk. Enjoy your 2007 Independence Day wherever you end up--Have fun and Be Safe.
